- An absolutely welcome port of a pretty good, if uninspired Mario game. It's great to have this title available on the go in handheld mode. Multiplayer is as always a great laugh with friends and family, and playing with a single joy con is surprisingly intuitive. The new HD rumble effects added actually really enhance the experience, and being able to select your character from the get-go in single player mode. However if it wasn't for the exclusive bonus pin badge set and poster, I'd say the near £50 RRP is a pretty steep asking price, even with the two new exclusive playable characters and New Super Luigi U bundled in.
Objectively speaking 164 courses and 5 playable characters is a great value, and with the bonus challenge and boost rush modes as well as coin battle for multiplayer there's a solid level of re-playability. But this is still a 6 year old game, and it doesn't quite meet the mark of being deemed a "Deluxe" port. However I will say that this is an essential game for the Switch. 2D Mario is an all-time classic, and it's a great game for parties and quality family time in multiplayer, but for it to appeal to that demographic I believe the price should be lower. Take £15 off and it'd already be easier to highly recommend.
