The popular karting series returns and those who purchase Mario Kart Wii can expect all their favourite franchise features, including all the tracks, cup modes, battles, boosts and ghost data you would expect, updated for Wii. This isn’t just an update – it’s a breakthrough! As with Mario Kart DS, there is a lot to enjoy when you play Mario Kart Wii using a Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. You can text chat with other racers while you’re waiting to get going, create rooms for friends to join and race with up to 11 other players from around the world. You’ll even be able to join races friends are involved in, sitting on the side-lines as a spectator until the next course starts!

While you’re busy heading for that chequered flag, check out how your times compare with other people from around the world via the Mario Kart Channel. You’ll also be able to pick up tips on what approach to take to better your own score, with details on characters and control methods. See someone whose time you want to match or beat? Then use the Mario Kart Channel to download their ghost data to your Wii. With Mario Kart Wii comes a new personalised experience too, as you’ll not only be able to race as all your favourite Mushroom Kingdom characters, but also as your very own Mii! There are other surprises to look out for too, including the introduction of a new type of vehicle to the franchise – bikes! They may have fewer wheels than a kart, but this just gives them a very different set of advantages. For example, popping a wheelie will give you some extra speed – just remember it will make you more vulnerable to bumps from other racers or rougher terrain. You can launch your bike or your kart into the air with selected boost ramps and perform special tricks as you do to get an extra boost when you hit the ground.

For the ultimate driving experience, place the Wii Remote (available separately) inside the Wii Wheel casing and race like a professional. You can also combine the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers or use a GameCube Controller to help tackle those tight turns and challenges of Mario Kart Wii. It’s an all new racing experience whether alone, with up to three friends at home or with up to 12 others online. All these new features give the franchise an extra new dimension, but don’t worry, they don’t come at a price. Mario Kart Wii has all sorts of new courses to enjoy like Mushroom Canyon and Wario Mines, but you’ll also find retro tracks like Sherbert Land, Waluigi Stadium, Peach Beach and 13 others. Wondering how a bike will fare on these classic tracks? Then fire up your engine and find out!
